What is myric balsam?

Myric balsam, also called good-smelling wood, releases delicious forest aromas that are simply incredible. It is mainly used in cooking to season soups and stews, but is also very good with any type of game. Its leaves are used in craft beer and microbreweries to add a touch of flavor and foam. Obviously, we also make boreal infusions from here!

What does myric balsam taste like?

It simply tastes like heaven. Its flavor oscillates between balsam fir and jasmine. It could be described as refreshing, hoppy, slightly bitter and peppery, while still being resinous. Some also find it resembling nutmeg. Either way, this is truly an aroma worth discovering!

This plant is astringent, but be careful, it is also an abortifacient if taken in the first trimester. It was once used to repel insects in general as well as to make a dye. If you happen to go fishing in Quebec, you have undoubtedly come across this shrub. It encircles the edges of lakes in abundance, so much so that it often blocks access to certain places. If you canoe, you've probably already gotten stuck in a boat!
