What is larch?

The tamarack, also called tamarac, is the only conifer losing its needles in the fall in Quebec. Rich in vitamin C, its small, flexible needles are very popular in herbal tea. In the past, its young shoots were consumed as emergency food in the forest. Larch is used in several ways in alternative medicine. For example, as a dietary supplement, elixir, ointment, poultice, infusion, disinfectant, etc.

What do larch needles taste like?

We detect a very mild resinous taste, a little touch of sweetness and fir. Its aromas are similar to the typical “wood scent” found when entering a log cabin, the smell when wood is freshly cut or the delicate emanation of quality furniture.

Its natural environment

It is found as far as the far north of Canada, because it adapts very well to different types of terrain and soil, as long as it is exposed to full sun. In good conditions, its growth can be very rapid and reach maturity around twenty years! For comparison, spruce and fir mature only after around sixty years.
